Creative Writing: The Basics of Storytelling

This workshop will introduce alumni to the core elements of effective storytelling, including scene, character, tension and narrative structure, as well as to the creative writing process. Join Dr. Morano, Professor and Chair of the English Department within DePaul’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, as she leads short writing exercises that will help participants generate ideas and model how to develop them into full stories. No previous experience with creative writing is necessary.

Michele Morano is a professor and chair of the DePaul University English Department. She is the author of two books, the travel memoir Grammar Lessons: Translating a Life in Spain and the forthcoming memoir Like Love. She teaches undergraduate and graduate creative writing workshops and is a founding editor of DePaul’s social justice publishing house, Big Shoulders Books.
