Because a global threat like COVID-19 impacts everyone, it also presents a rare opportunity for the world community to come together in support of one another. #GivingTuesdayNow is a new day of giving and unity taking place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. It will bring people from around the world together, tapping into the power of human connection through an opportunity to provide care and comfort to our communities.
DePaul is proud to participate in this global day of giving in support of our students, faculty, staff and Illinois healthcare workers who have been impacted by the pandemic. On Tuesday, May 5, you can be part of the response to COVID-19 on #GivingTuesdayNow with a gift to one of our four crowdfunding campaigns:
- Student Emergency Assistance Fund: The pandemic has sown uncertainty in students’ lives by creating unexpected housing and food expenses, limiting their income from off-campus jobs and creating other unforeseen challenges.
- Vincentian Assistance Fund: In the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac, the Vincentian Assistance Fund provides short-term, emergency financial support to members of the DePaul community, including faculty and staff.
- Student Food Pantry: The Student Food Pantry opened its doors this semester and has quickly become a trusted source of support for DePaul students. Your gift to the Student Food Pantry will help continue to feed students through the rest of spring quarter.
- Protective Equipment for Healthcare Workers: Under the direction of Jay Margalus, DePaul students, faculty and staff, along with the Illinois PPE Network, are creating thousands of pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) for Illinois healthcare workers on the front lines of the pandemic.
#GivingTuesdayNow is about supporting our communities through these unprecedented times in any way we can. In addition to the opportunities above, consider reaching out to neighbors, donating goods or extra supplies or sharing your gratitude to frontline workers and those keeping us safe. You can also help by sending a note of support to our graduating students or sharing a job or internship opportunity that could be a good fit with DePaul’s Career Center. If you can show generosity and share kindness, you have something to give! Working together, our DePaul community does extraordinary things.
