Early in the morning on Thursday, Jan. 31, we asked you to rise to the Blue Demon Challenge. Your response floored us.
Despite a university closure, cancelled classes—even a polar vortex!—the DePaul family came together to smash previous totals and make 2019 a record-breaking year. We reached 2,004 donors during the Blue Demon Challenge, totaling more than $780,000 raised to help DePaul students.
Just to put those numbers in context, that’s almost double our previous record number of donors and nearly six times our previous record amount raised. We also recorded gifts from alumni in 46 states—seven more than ever before (we’re coming for you next year, North Dakota, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Wyoming!).
On social media, the DePaul community helped get the hashtag #BlueDemonChallenge trending in Chicago on Thursday—a new first for us! Aided by intrepid and enthusiastic alumni who helped spread the word, we watched the momentum behind the Blue Demon Challenge build as the day went on—see below for some of our favorite tweets!
During the “Double or Nothing” afternoon power hour sponsored by members of DePaul’s Board of Trustees, we set an hourly giving record: the DePaul community made 150 gifts in a single hour!
We want to say a giant THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the 2019 Blue Demon Challenge the most successful yet. As always, we couldn’t have done it without you!
